Walkies!

If you follow my social pages and if you’ve spent any time on this website, you’ll know that I am a big lover of animals and I am slowly convincing my husband that we should add more to our menagerie! Our newest additions to the apiary area (soon to be renamed Jurassic Park!) are our four chickens and a few weeks before them, we brought our Working Cocker Spaniel puppy home. So now with two dogs I have even more of an excuse to go for walks and explore our beautiful local countryside.

Often when we get individuals attending a bee experience their partner or family members will drop them off before taking their own dogs for a walk, so I thought it would be helpful to give a little guidance on the walks in our area that Marley, Poppy and I enjoy.

When you drop off your friend or family member at the farm there is a public footpath across the fields, this runs alongside the field for about half a mile and then you reach some old concrete roads. Apparently, during the war (anyone else hear Only Fool’s and Horses’ Uncle Albert when they read that!?), the woodland that we live next to was used as an ammunitions store for the local airfields and so we have some lovely paths that lead around the wood (the woodland is private and so not accessible to the public) and to the main roads which make a very comfortable walk.

I can advise you when you get here of a lovely 2(ish) mile circular walk that follows these paths, alternatively you can wander back down the track you approached the farm on and along the very quiet road where you can look out for the Kites, Buzzards, Sparrow Hawks, Rooks and other birds that frequent the area.

You’re also welcome to wait in the garden with your dog although Marley can get a bit protective and likes to bark at any strangers playing with his toys through the window!

Oh, and please remember the countryside code, and pick up after your dog. Thank you.

Whilst I’m here talking all things doggies - if you’re like me and like spoiling your little companions with delicious treats and toys then you might like to take a look at the Collar Club. Marley has been subscribed for a couple of years now and every time the box arrives he gets very excited by all the delicious smells - the box usually has quite a few holes in it by the time we’ve opened it. He does share it with Poppy these days but I’m sure he’d much prefer keeping all the goodies for himself! If you’d like to try a box then click here to visit the Collar Club. I particularly love that the business is eco-friendly, so everything is natural and sustainably sourced and all of the packaging can be recycled or used to get the smoker going!
